Most years I go to a tech conference in California in Q1, and extend my trip for some sight seeing and shopping, as do about 200 of my colleagues from EMEA and APJ.
This year many of us simply aren’t going at all, let alone extending trips and spending time and money in the USA.
That’s hundreds of high earning tech employees who simply aren’t going back to the USA for a long time, maybe if ever.
I wouldn’t go for free let alone as a paying tourist.

These conferences have taken a giant hit in attendance since COVID, IMO.

I refuse to travel to the US until the administration changes and they go back to not be complete assholes to the rest of the world.

We had to change out an international expert MainStage keynote speaker 2 weeks out because their visa was denied. Person “travels to the US too much”
So it’s a hassle all the way around.
“Under Trump, America now has large “Keep Out!” and “No Trespassing!” signs effectively posted. I’ve known several top tech people who tried to come to the US for technology shows with proper visas and paperwork, but were still turned away at the border. Who wants to fly for 8+ hours for a conference, only to be refused entry at the last minute, and be forced to fly back? “
