FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – Candidates aspiring for the positions of Flint mayor and City Council can kick off their campaigns as early as next week. Nominating petitions for the four-year terms will be accessible starting Monday, January 5, 2026.
To appear on the ballot, City Council candidates must gather at least 75 signatures from registered voters in their respective wards, while mayoral candidates need a minimum of 600 signatures from registered Flint voters. The deadline for submitting nominating petitions to the Clerk’s Office is 4 p.m. on April 21.
The Clerk’s Office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. It is located on the second floor of City Hall, 1101 S. Saginaw St.
According to the Flint City Charter, all eligible candidates for elective office must be registered Flint voters for at least one year before the filing deadline and must reside in the ward they aim to represent. Elected officials are required to maintain this residency throughout their term.
