The statements of Aleksandar Vučić and Ana Brnabić regarding the events in Montenegro show the extent to which the outgoing regime has lost all touch with reality. From a country where a sound cannon was used against its own citizens, where the police brutally beat 15-year-old children in the streets, where the regime does not choose any means in an attempt to suppress protests and persecute anyone who thinks differently, where the will of the electorate is not respected, they are today sharing lessons about democracy and the rule of law with others.

This was announced in a statement delivered to “Vijesti” by Srđan Milivojević, president of the Serbian Democratic Party.

“Such frivolous messages are part of a pattern that has already been seen – a systematic campaign to demonize the European Union, an unsuccessful attempt to transfer tensions to the region, a vile and futile effort to overthrow democratically elected governments in neighboring countries, and the standard radical substitution of theses. Vučić’s regime, which has been dismantling institutions, undermining the rule of law and trampling on basic rights for years, is now trying to present itself as the alleged defender of freedom in the region. This is nothing more than a sloppy and transparent attempt to hide its own ruin behind false patriotism and invented external enemies,” Milivojević added.

The President of the Democratic Party said that both the citizens of Serbia and the citizens of neighboring countries know very well that the problem is not in the countries in the region, nor in Europe, but in the regime that has turned the state into a private pawn and its own booty.

“Vučić and his accomplices could at least now, at the very end of their rule, when no one takes them seriously anymore, stop embarrassing Serbia in front of the region and the world. The damage they have caused us is already historic. There is no statement, message, or false concern for the fate of Serbs outside Serbia that could extend the life of the outdated regime,” concluded Milivojević.
