Governor General Mary Simon announced 80 appointments to the Order of Canada on Wednesday, including four Nova Scotians.

They are gymnast Ellie Black; Dalhousie University president Kim Brooks; Dalhousie professor and director of the Critical Thinking Program Patrick Croskerry; and Mi’kmaq historian and archaeologist Roger Lewis of the Sipekne’katik First Nation.

Other notable appointees include country music singer Terri Clark and children’s entertainer Raffi.

The Order of Canada is the highest honour in the Canadian honours system. Since its creation in 1967, more than 7,600 people from across the country have been invested into the order.
