RTÜK’s penalty report card for opposition channels in 2025

Distribution of penalties imposed by RTÜK between January 1 and December 31, 2025 among channels, broadcasters and those who criticize the government; He revealed that he was categorized as those who praise the government. In a year, not a single report was prepared by RTÜK and not even a fine was imposed on the channels known for their closeness to the government!

While RTÜK gave 52 penalties to channels that question and criticize the government’s actions; Among these penalties, a program suspension of 29 days, an administrative fine of 50 days and a decision to suspend broadcasting for 25 days were recorded. The monetary equivalent of these penalties was calculated as 92,790,898.00 TL in total.

• Total administrative fine given to publishers close to the government: 0 (ZERO) TL!

Tele 1 channel was the broadcaster with the most penalties (15) until the appointment of a trustee on October 24.

RTÜK did not ignore digital platforms either!

•In 2025, administrative fines and removal from the catalog for different contents were imposed 10 times in total for platforms that are paid and watched by individuals as subscribers (HboMax, Disney Xd, Mubi, Prime Video, Netflix, Spotify, TV+).

•The total amount of administrative fines applied to Digital Platforms was: 2,888,844.00 TL.

As long as they praise the government!

These data clearly revealed that RTÜK has an attitude that is far from an understanding that prioritizes freedom of press and expression.

RTÜK should quickly put to rest the mentality of “As long as it praises the government and broadcasts whatever it broadcasts”. Although daytime broadcasts, which trigger social decay, are the most complained programs to RTÜK, the portrayal of the three monkeys is the greatest evil done to society.

Broadcasting the CHP rally is a crime!

Even programs that criticized the government and were attended by executives of the main opposition party, CHP, whose raison d’être was to criticize the government and aim for the government, were punished. For the first time in RTÜK’s history, broadcasting CHP Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel’s rally live was deemed a crime and the broadcaster was punished!

In the new year, RTÜK will stop being an obstacle to freedom of press and expression; It should allow different thoughts and opinions to be broadcast on the screens in multiple voices. Only in this way will the democratization of Türkiye and the construction of intellectual freedom be possible. The opposite approach will continue to drag Türkiye into intellectual desertion, and a multi-channel, monophonic structure will continue.
