  1. >A group of Democrats are seeking to curb the president’s pardoning powers **by amending the U.S. Constitution.**

Noble, but zero chance of this actually being ratified in the current political environment.

**However**, they should still do it and have all the blue states ratify the amendment right now. Then if there’s ever a Democratic president again the red states will immediately change their tune and ratify it.

Congress should spend the time trying to get their powers back. This is icing without any cake..

  3. Enforced by whom?

America’s problems are now just compounding interest. Not like gravity.

  4. The GOP congress is already ok with defending Trump over child rape, I doubt pardon power will be their last straw.

  5. Will never even be considered for vote as Speaker Johnson will ignore it based on Trumps orders.

Amendments only happen when both sides see a problem. Right now Republicans don’t see any problems with Trump selling pardons for personal profit. And the supreme court doesn’t see it as a problem since they have Trump immunity from official presidential duties so Trump selling pardons cant even be brought up in federal court.

  6. This isn’t even fucking news. I have a better chance of willing the $2b Powerball than this proposal has of passing.

  7. That power is fucking ridiculous .. so many things need to be codified into law

This GOP criminal organization will be hard to be purged unless people get fucking locked up

  8. I’d say he’s abusing the privilege. Also I’ve never known anyone that repeated themselves as much as he does. So insulting and demeaning.

I honestly don’t like limiting pardon powers. There are so many raciest laws still on the books that need a sane president to pardon. So I want the next guy to fix those laws with pardons.

  10. Why do democrats just waste time and political capital?

    Amending the constitution?

How about writing some legislation that actually helps US, your constituents who voted for you?

  11. Verbiage needs to be added to include anyone who is a subject or target in any case where the President is a subject or target.

However, we’ll never see another amendment to the current Constitution, assuming it survives the Trump Presidency. The country is too irrevocably polarized to receive the approval it would need to be ratified.

That’s hilarious. It’s an Article II power. It may be the only actual plenary power of the U.S. President. Propose away, pipe dreams about amending the constitution are just more pissing in the wind.

    Release the gd unredacted files.

Whelp, that’s going to go nowhere. The GOP won’t vote for this, they are cowards.

    >White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson told Newsweek: “President Trump has exercised his constitutional authority to issue pardons and commutations for a variety of individuals. And the only pardons anyone should be critical of are from President Autopen, who pardoned and commuted sentences of violent criminals including child killers and mass murderers– and that’s not to mention the proactive pardons he ‘signed’ for his family members like Hunter on his way out the door.”

Abigail Jackson’s words are horrible enough, but insulting the previous President is a serious crime and should have gotten her fired. I hope the Democrats succeed in curbing Trump’s ability to issue Presidential pardons.

  15. Last time I checked, the president is suppose to read the pardon and hear if they admit to their crimes! But I’m not as stupid as trump
