Greek Finance Minister and Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis has welcomed Bulgaria’s integration in the euro area.

“As of January 1 2026, Bulgaria is due to become the 21st member of the Eurozone. This milestone reflects sustained effort and reform, strengthens our common currency and the shared economic foundations of the Union at a very decisive moment for Europe. Congratulations and my best of wishes for 2026,” he said in a statement circulated on social media and by the Greek Finance Ministry.

Earlier in December, Pierrakakis succeeded Paschal Donohoeas President of the Eurogroup.
