

In 2025, the Transnistrian separatist authorities unveiled a memorial plaque in memory of Semyon Hitler, a Soviet soldier of Jewish origin who died on the front during the Battle of Sevastopol in WW2. The reason is because it distinguished itself in the Battle of Odessa in 1941.
Obviously, as his name was… interesting, in Soviet times he was known as "Ghitlev". But his real name was Hitler. His family escaped deportation because the Nazis were afraid to kill someone with the same name as the Führer.
