WASHBURN, N.D. (KFYR) – Washburn Boys Basketball returns second-team all-state guard Parker Jacobson. The Cardinal sharp-shooter enters his senior season with plenty of confidence.
Jacobson keeps it simple.
“I’m a true shooter,” said Jacobson.
The Washburn senior has the seventh and 13th-best three-point shooting seasons in North Dakota history, according to the hoopster magazine. Developing such a shot took time.
“I take about 800 shots a day,” said Jacobson.
This sharpshooting journey began all the way back when Jacobson was in the eighth grade.
“I think the first couple of games I hit like six to eight threes or something like that. Then I kept building off of that,” said Jacobson.
As Jacobson enters his fifth year on varsity, he’s still looking for ways to improve his game.
“He’s willing to listen to what he needs to get better at, and then he does it,” said Washburn Head Coach Joshua Sharp.
That trait will serve him well next year. Jacobson’s committed to St. John’s University, an NCAA Division 3 school in Minnesota.
“I’m just happy for him. That’s all you want to see as a coach, is your players to succeed,” said Sharp.
But there’s still work to do in Washburn. The Cardinals just so happen to share a District with multiple top-five teams.
“It brings out the best competition every night, so I have to bring it every night. Pretty much everyone in the district is really good,” said Jacobson.
This year closes a half-decade run of accurate shooting at the varsity level. That experience brings Jacobson reassurance and the knowledge to attack defenses in several situations.
“It all depends on how the defense is playing me. If my teammates open, I’m going to get him the ball. If not, I’m either going to have a layup or a mid-range,” said Jacobson. “Every time I shoot, I have a lot of confidence, so I think it’s going in pretty much every time.”
Washburn’s fourth all-time leading scorer thinks his shooting ability will stick out at the D3 level.
