The number of road deaths in the Czech Republic fell again last year. Preliminary figures show that a total of 428 fatalities were recorded in 2025 – the lowest number since records began. The police plan to release the final figures during January.
The number of road deaths in the Czech Republic last year reached the lowest level since the start of statistical recording in 1961. According to preliminary data, 428 people lost their lives on the country’s roads – ten fewer than the year before. This information comes from the traffic police and police data at the turn of the year.
In December, however, the number of fatalities was higher than in the previous year. Preliminary figures indicate that 33 people died in traffic accidents that month, four more than in December 2024. The police plan to publish the final figures in January.
Already in 2024, with 438 fatalities, it was the safest year on record so far. In 2025, this figure was further reduced. The tragic peak since the founding of the Czech Republic was recorded in 1994, with 1,473 road deaths. Since 2008, the number of road deaths has remained below 1,000 each year.
The deadliest day on the roads last year was Sunday, 15 June, when eight people lost their lives in traffic accidents. The highest monthly toll was in September, with 59 fatalities, while the fewest deaths occurred in March, with 19.
According to preliminary figures, a total of 1,609 people were seriously injured – the same number as the previous year. The number of minor injuries, however, rose from 23,971 to 24,795. At the same time, the total number of traffic accidents fell: preliminary figures show 85,258 accidents, down from more than 92,000 in 2024 according to the annual statistics.
