German workers earned a median gross income of €4,177 ($4,900) a study published on Friday showed — more than €1,200 less than Indian employees. We are seeing a repeat of the creation of a very high earning Indian immigrant community similar to what happened in the US over the last 30 years.

Edit: To address comments regarding the obviously higher median wages for all immigrant groups, I agree that a better comparison is with other immigrant communities which shows that it is all in the 5K+ range. "Its survey showed the median gross monthly wage for Indian workers reached €5,393 in 2024, ahead of Austrians at €5,322, US nationals at €5,307, and Irish nationals at €5,233."

Not very surprising looking at the immigration restrictions and targeting of highly educated industries when recruiting people from India.

I mean, is that really surprising? Like this compares apples and oranges imo. The “German median” includes all the minimum wage jobs that most Indians aren’t even allowed to work because they never would get a visa for it. So … yeah … not really surprising Indians have a better median.

Based on the Indians I know, that is even a low number. I know 3-4 Indians who earn over 100k eur netto and the average netto being around 70k

Oh no but how will I now create a stereotype online that they accept low paying jobs and are totally messing up the job market and pay.

  6. Sounds like good news. Many qualified Indians coming to Germany is something to be grateful for.

Aren’t Indian the highest earning immigrants in almost everywhere? That includes usa, Europe, middle east, Australia etc.

  8. This shit gets posted every few months. It’s not necessary to be a genius to understand that all of them come here with at least a bachelor degree and work experience. Most of the Indian coworkers that I have encountered are smart and hardworking, although I find their Akzent is difficult to understand.

I sometimes feel that posts such as this get posted to gas lit or as a rage bait.

  9. Yet they face racism on almost a monthly basis. Not just from Western Europeans, but also Eastern Europeans for some weird reason.

When one stops to think and dissects this, it’s not surprising at all, given the restrictions for the visa.

That said, I’d expect a more nuanced (or less inflammatory) headline from non-rightwing publisher.

This is the outcome of good policy making and enforcement. Off late, however, the number of diploma mills enticing poorly researched & misinformed young Indians into the Wolt/Delivery/Uber eats pipeline is increasing. Germany must curtail this at its bud.

  12. I mean, you’re likely gonna find that the median of all working immigrants in ANY country will be higher than the whole country’s median salary.

It’s usually highly qualified people seeking those roles. Why else would they leave their country…

Some countries even have minimum salaries for immigrants to get working visa

This is good place to brag 🙂 The haters cannot succeed us, they are mad we are more hard working

This is statistically shallow and a misleading narrative. The comparison should be like for like across similar industries, experience level, seniority, size of the employer etc. An educated guess is that such a comparison will firmly place native Germans at the top.

There is a lot of Indian hate already doing the rounds. This will only make it worse for a law abiding community which finds itself in this situation due to increasing population of educated individuals who migrate where jobs are made available for migrants. At the end they are net contributors to their adopted countries. No more. No less.

  15. Don’t forget 4177€ gross income in Germany is basically 2500€ after tax, so Indians do ~3100€ after tax. Further they probably live all in high tier cities where rents are much higher. So the after rent the difference is negligible even though they are all high skill workers.
