Trump is out of control. He has long since proven himself to be, among other things, a danger to the US and the world in general. He must be impeached.
This unlawful attack can be nobody’s plan other than Putin’s. Have the USA enter into war, have the USA committing war crimes, have Trump demand that NATO back him up, should they not because it’s not their business, he will declare NATO dead…
Then Russia takes its chance to attack US allies – not that Russia ever needed a reason to attack, but it DOES need a reason to attack NATO.
Distract the US people from activities in Europe.
Alternately Russia has a reason to pull from Ukraine – because they need to fight other countries. They have an excuse for surrender, they can paint themselves as heroes and victims, and Putin doesn’t get overthrown and Russia doesn’t collapse..

Clearly, no one will shed a tear for Maduro’s ousting but also, no one will applaud that it was the US that did it. It was illegal and unnecessary.
We all know that Venezuela traffics zero fentanyl, and very little cocaine. The motivation appears to have more to do with oil and Trump’s belief in Manifest Destiny and re-adoption of the Monroe Doctrine as foreign policy than anything else. Or if you the kind of person who thinks Rubio is behind this then you might believe it is the sort of thing is designed to put pressure on Cuba (they import Vensualian oil and receive support).
This will send a chill down the spines of all countries in the Americas – friend and adversary alike. The US cannot be trusted to respect the sovereignty of nations. It has threatened to annex Canada, Greenland and Panama. Is it more likely these nations view the US as a friend or adversary or worse?
We’ll see what comes next for the people of Venezuela. In the best case there will be stability, credible new elections and a smooth transition. However, we know that the Trump administration lacks the diplomatic skills to help make that happen and I bet they have not thought of the consequences of their actions, including the worst case – civil war, collapse, humanitarian disaster and mass migration.
If I were a cynic I would suggest Americans “follow the money”. Watch the movements of Trump organization executives and friends (Don Jr, Kusner, etc) to see who is benefiting.
