It reached Rumsfeld’s desk, the secretary of defense, and he used the 13-volume study, page by page, to wipe his own ass. Others definitely helped him wipe his ass too, but the fish stinks from the head, and that fish is called Rumsfeld.
Rumsfeld also wrote on 9/11 a memo to start gathering info on Saddam Hussein as the Pentagon was burning. Not Bin Laden, Saddam.

What is easy to forget is that this is only 14 years after the fall of the Iron Curtain so it was absolutely in Poland’s best interest to ingratiate itself with the US.
Doesn’t make the entire endeavor any less morally fucked but from a Polish perspective, this was an easy call.
