Joshua Smith, 24, of Tydfil Street in Cadoxton, was charged with three offences of shoplifting and one of attempted theft from a shop.
It was alleged that Smith stole £32.51-worth of Carlsberg from Iceland on Holton Road in Barry on November 13, and then £20.50 of Starbucks coffee pods from the same store on November 18.
He was also charged with stealing Lindt chocolate valued at £69 from Tesco Express on Holton Road on November 17.
Smith was also accused of attempting to steal £32.50-worth of chocolate from the same Iceland store on November 21.
The defendant pleaded guilty to each of the four offences, and at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on December 19 he was jailed for nine weeks.
Smith must pay £85 in costs and compensation of £69 to Tesco and £20.50 to Iceland.
