In 2060, Sofia and Emma will be viewed as middle-aged women names, Jennifer will be like Mildred.

This affirms white Americans live different lives because I’ve never met a black or Hispanic with these names with popularity

This can’t be completely accurate because I know like 20 women and one bird named Brittany.

  4. As a child of the 90s i was waiting for Jessica to blow in and take the crown. Growing up, like one out of every three girls i knew was a Jessica.

I do sometimes wonder if it’s going to go the way of names that have become intractably old, like Agnes or Bertha – something so ubiquitous to a specific generation that when that generation reaches their twilight years there will be so many women of that age with that name that it just becomes an “old person” name, never to escape that association, even after they all die.

My parents claim Emily wasn’t a very popular name when I was born 😒

My older brother and sister have decently uncommon names too. So unfair 😭

  6. Is the overall winner (at the bottom) by number of states (i.e. “a plurality of states have name ‘X’ as the #1 name”) or is it simply a raw count for the entire US?

I’ve never understood this. Why the heck would you want to give your kid the same name as everyone else? No matter how much you like the name Jennifer, do you want them to be one of four Jennifer’s who in their class?

  8. Think less of my friend who named his kid Isobel in 09. Thought it was like a family name nope it was the most popular name in the fucking country

  9. I worked at a call center and every other woman was named Lisa. Maybe named off of the Simpson’s character? idk 🤷

Mary I get, religious connotations and all that, but what sparked the Lisa takeover and the more than a decade of Jennifer dominance?
