After North Macedonia’s Foreign Minister welcomed US President Donald Trump’s announcement about the arrest of Nicolas Maduro.
“North Macedonian wretch! A Balkan banana state celebrates the fall of Venezuela.” These are just some of the insults used by Serbian media controlled by the regime of President Aleksandar Vučić against the authorities in Skopje, BGNES reported from Belgrade.
“Another small Balkan banana state has lined up to applaud American intervention in Venezuela. This time it was North Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski who spoke out. Without hesitation, he welcomed the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and openly sided with Washington,” wrote Informer, Vučić’s favored outlet. The article refers to Mucunski’s post on X regarding the US military operation and the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Mucunski welcomed US President Donald Trump’s announcement about the arrest of Nicolas Maduro, stressed the need for accountability, praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s role in countering the regime’s narco-criminal networks, and expressed solidarity with the United States and the Venezuelan people in their struggle for freedom and democracy.
According to Informer, Mucunski’s message showed “not a trace of concern about the violation of state sovereignty, international law, or the precedent of one power militarily detaining the president of another country.” “Everything the Balkans and Europe usually invoke when it suits them politically has simply been erased here. For Skopje, which unquestioningly carries out the demands of Washington and Brussels, there is clearly no dilemma: American force is, by definition, ‘justice,’ even when it is carried out by helicopters, under cover of darkness, and outside US territory,” the outlet added.
BGNES also reported from Belgrade on Vučić’s decision to convene an emergency session of the National Security Council “due to unprecedented events and crimes on the international political stage that have serious consequences for global security and international relations.”
On August 21 last year, Vučić held what he described as a “good and substantive” phone conversation with Nicolas Maduro focused on improving bilateral relations. Vučić referred to Maduro as a “great friend” of Serbia.
“Serbia highly values Venezuela’s principled and consistent support for preserving our territorial integrity and its refusal to recognize the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo,” the Serbian president said.
Serbian authorities maintained close ties with Maduro, whom the European Union does not recognize as a legitimately democratically elected president due to election rigging. Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić attended Maduro’s inauguration as president in January, a move that drew criticism from Brussels. | BGNES
