Robert Fico said he would use all his political experience to ensure Slovakia is not drawn into what he described as “military adventures,” arguing that peace is essential for the country’s security and effective governance.
In a video posted on social media, the Slovak prime minister said peace was not an empty slogan but a prerequisite for implementing the government’s programme. He warned that international politics had reached a point where major powers increasingly ignored international law, while institutions such as the United Nations were becoming paralysed.
Fico criticised recent U.S. actions linked to Venezuela, describing them as another example of oil-driven intervention, which he said he rejects. At the same time, he acknowledged ongoing cooperation with Washington, including in the energy sector.
The prime minister said taking a clear stance could temporarily strain relations between Bratislava and Washington, but insisted it was his responsibility to speak openly. He called for Slovakia to pursue a multi-directional foreign policy focused on sovereignty, national interests, and strict respect for international law.
