Of course it did. But no one is enforcing the rules, so the US does whatever it wants.

I guess the international law police are going to show up and arrest Trump any minute now.

LOL, they paraded Maduro around NYC like Roman Triumph Vercingetorix style. They don’t give a shit, lease of all Trumph who says the only thing the UN does is write a letter and never follows it up.

  4. I think the biggest impact of this extraction is it’s a huge embarrassment for China. Venezuela deployed Chinese air defence systems and they were proven completely inadequate against the US military. We are talking 100% failure.

Internationally the message is now China defense systems look great in the brochure but are useless against the US.

A lot of people are saying this gave China the green light to move on Taiwan but I guarantee they are in no way confident to do that now seeing how superior US tech is.

  5. Thank goodness we have the UN to issue such statements and resolutions that change absolutely nothing.

Being hegemon has its privileges. The voice of the UN is powerful only when it has the implied backing of the hegemon. When the UN opposes it, everyone knows it has no effect.

  7. What Maduro did for his country is so horrible that his whereabouts should not matter.

Hopefully what comes next is a return to prosperity for most Venezuelans.

So is the punishment like a parking ticket or some equivalent? Maybe a timeout? Go to bed early with no dinner?

It’s rich that the UN suddenly cares about the rights of Venezuelans after ignoring the crisis and humanitarian situation there for decades.

Yeah let’s just let them torture, exploit, and starve people another 10 years. We wouldn’t want to break any international laws and violate maduro’s right to kill his own people.

“There is no good and evil, there is only power, and those too weak to seek it”

Or in this case, there is no such thing as “international law,” only power.

The law’s meaningless without enforcement. It is just words.

If nobody is able to enforce a punishment that costs the criminal more than they got from committing the crime, the law is literally worthless.

  12. Surprised anyone still thinks the UN is relevant, they can’t actually do anything if the 5 permanent members on the security council that are ideologically opposed have veto power it’s just a debate club

Obviously, but who’s going to take the regime to task for what they’ve done? Hopefully there’s some sanctions or something coming, which will suck, but it’s the only thing the fat idiot and his sycophants might listen to.

Imo, it’s going to come down to America needing to vote anti-Trump hard in the midterms and having those responsible impeached and criminally charged by the new representatives, but odds are they’re scheming to delay/ruin all that so we might just be screwed.

  14. And just like Forrest Gump, all they have to add is: “And that’s all i have to say about that.”

Anyone with half a brain knew this Sunday, but the point is *what* exactly is the UN going to do about it bar the usual ‘hard stare’…🤔
