Detroit Red Wings prospect Eddie Genborg played a significant role in placing Sweden in the World Junior Championship game to face Czechia for the gold medal.
Genborg put up a goal and an assist in Sweden’s 4-3 shootout win against Finland in the WJC semifinals. Czechia upset Canada in the other semifinal.
Genborg assisted on blue-chip NHL 2026 draft prospect Ivar Stenberg’s second-period goal and then added a third period goal with his hard work. He chased his own rebound behind the Finnish goal line. He sent the puck toward the goal, where it ricocheted off the side of the net and the goalie’s skate before crossing the goal line.
The gold medal game between Czechia and Sweden is scheduled for 8:30 ET today (NHL Network).
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Coach Todd McLellan changed up three of his lines in preparation for tonight’s game against the Ottawa Senators.
The Red Wings recalled John Leonard on Sunday. It is unknown whether the team is reacting to an illness/injury. Or does want McLellan simply want Leonard (20 goals in 23 AHL games) part of his line revamping?
Prospect goaltender Michal Postava is back playing and winning in Grand Rapids.
Red Wings Extra
Just because Postava is back, you still should keep an eye on Carter Gylander, who has played impressively (6-0-1) for the Griffins this year. Last night, Gylander stopped 33 of 34 shots as the Toledo Walleye (ECHL) downed the Bloomington Bison 4-1 for their 10th consecutive win.
