    >Ontario Premier Doug Ford says to “stock up” on Crown Royal, confirming he plans to strip the Canadian whisky from the shelves of the LCBO in retaliation for a planned plant closure.

  2. Gunslinger7752 on

What an absolute moron. Even after closing one of their bottling plants, Crown Royal will still be made and bottled in Canada. They are by far the hoghest selling Canadian whiskey in the US and the US is by far their biggest market. By forcing everyone to boycott this made in Canada product, they might end up moving their second bottling plant to the US too. That will teach them a lesson, they will never mess with Doug again!

  3. Speaking as a Conservative (federal – I want nothing to do with this loser): I actually think this is something that will do more to sink his premiership than some of the more serious files. The entire premise of his leadership was bringing Canada into the 20th century on alcohol sales, and now he’s talking like an agent from the Bureau of Prohibition. It’s unserious and also delegitimizes the LCBO – what’s the point of its existence if we can’t buy commonly available name brand alcohols because the premier says so?

When the Elbows Up! tire has lost its tread, this guy is going to be so cooked.

So glad this is your priority Doug.. thanks for saving me from having to drink crown? /s

Was not Crown Royal moving that part of their operations that services the US to the US? And are they not leaving in Canada that part of their business that services Canada? Makes a lot of business sense.

So Ford’s response is let’s hurt the Canadian operations and Canadian jobs part of Crown Royal.

This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. The whiskey is made in Gimli, Manitoba and bottled in Quebec.

  7. Somewhere I still have the old Crown Royal purple velvet bag with gold cord that contained the bottle.
It was the perfect marble bag for plunkers, aggies, gassies and cat’s eyes when I was a kid.
Do kids still play marbles anymore?

    “Fuck you rest of Canada”

    -Doug Ford

Is he competing with Danelle Smith for most anti-Canadian Premier?

  9. What happened to free trade between provinces? Sounded like it was a serious thing during the *Elbows Up* era.

Can we have a real Conservative premier in Ontario?

  10. >It said bottling at the factory intended for the U.S. market will be shifting stateside, while bottling for Canadian consumers will relocate to its Valleyfield, Que., location.

So if we stop buying it, how long until they shut down that location as well?

I think that he should get his priorities straight, this is true. But at the same time, I do agree with this move. It is about time that we start leveraging the supremacy of government over corporate interests. This sends a message. I especially am in favour of this line of action in regards to Chrysler Brampton.

Ford is such a buffoon just pandering to low info voters. I say this as someone who voted for his party in 2018. Why the heck are we taking a Canadian product off the shelf ? lets put more jobs at risk because of jobs being moved to the US. Soo freaking stupid man.

  13. Capricorn7Seven on

Although this is silly, who is stocking up on Crown? It’s the lowest of the low?

  14. I don’t get it…. Crown Royal being sold in Canada is still manufactured in Canada.

They’re only moving production of product destined for the USA, into the USA.

Either way they’re a British multinational company. But I don’t think we should punish companies that still have production in Canada. If sales drop, they will really close down the Canadian production and that will lead to more job losses.

Just more dumb moves by Doug Ford.

bottling operations to move to the U.S. and the Canadian market products will be bottled in Quebec.

It’s basically a loss of 186 jobs for Ontario, and there’s a broader portfolio of alcohol products at stake.

Can’t be a pushover and lose more jobs

  16. How about if you don’t like the product the customer doesn’t buy it, and not the supplier?

  17. Are they actually stopping CR production or they are only cutting back to produce for Canadian consumption?

I think there’s a plant in Quebec that will continue to operate bottling CR for Canada’s market. So LCBO removing CR from shelves would only hurt\potentially cause more layoffs elsewhere in Canada.

  18. The Crown Royal bottles sold in Canada were packaged in Canada. The bottles sold in the US, will be packaged in the US. A perfectly reasonable compromise.

Keep it up Ford, and Crown Royal will move ALL their operations to the United States, since Ontario will no longer be selling Crown Royal.

  19. DreadpirateBG on

Never mind most of the root product that makes up Crown is Canadian. It was just the bottler moving out.

  20. The fact that a Premier has the right to ban the sale of a brand of liquor based entirely on politics is insane. This is so unbelievably rife for abuse that I can smell a lawsuit coming on.
