  1. Seems inevitable, she was accepting so many roles, though I thought she’d be resigning over the summer. Will be interesting to see when they call a byelection, and who Carney outs there. Lots of prime Carney candidates live in Rosedale.

This shouldn’t affect the standings in the house, presuming Jeneroux continues his pattern of not showing up.

  2. This felt inevitable given the political blowback after the earlier announcement. I do wonder if they were trying to wait out the CPC leadership review and any floor-crossers. Now Carney may need two MPs to get there, and even then it would only be a one-seat majority for a time. On top of that, Nathaniel Erskine-Smith could leave for an OLP leadership run in the coming weeks or months.

Edit: I know both seats are considered safe for the Liberals, but there will still be short periods without an MP, and in any election, there’s always at least some chance for the other side.

  3. Which was OBVIOUSLY going to happen, but far be it from the conservative owned media of Canada to not panic about Freeland working for a foreign government.

  4. If the NDP doesn’t manage to win a low stakes by-election for a LPC-NDP seat they held before Freeland, at a time when Carney is governing like a PC, it might be it for the party
