I’ve made borscht for the first time, and I’d like to ask Ukrainian people if i did it well. ((All my support from France for war🙏♥️🇺🇦))

  1. Quick tip, add beetroot a few minutes before it finishes cooking, otherwise it will lose it’s color.

  2. I recommend to first try a real Ukrainian bortsch so you can compare.

I don’t know where you’re in France but there’s a pretty nice Russian/Ukrainian restaurant in Paris 10 – Kalinka, I’ve tried it and it taste like the food I had in Ukraine.

There’s also another restaurant in Paris 02 – Oranta, I haven’t tried it but it looks good.

  3. Sorry, it does not look like borshch.

I have been collecting (and trying) borshch recipes for many years (long before the war), but none of them look like this. However, it should be added that there are many recipes—each region has a different one.

  4. Salut compatriote !

As others have said borshtch looks redder but it probably tastes very good anyway.

You should solyanka next! It’s my favorite soup from this region of the world. It has a very pleasant acidity and is nonetheless very comforting. Pick the right pickles (the big ones à la russe)

  5. It looks like a lovely borsch inspired stew; but a “true” borsch is gonna be redder and more soupy than this.

    An excellent first attempt though!

    Well done 👏

  6. chef tip, beetroots get orange as they cook so if you want to stew the beetroots in the broth, add another set for 5 mins before finishing, purely for color

    Hell yeah mate!

As others have said it, you might want more beets. Depending on the variation you choose, it even paints the rest of the vegetables into dark red hues.

    How was it?
