Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla, has reacted to the recent statements of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, emphasizing that to understand Russia’s intentions in the region, it is enough to observe Serbia’s actions.
According to Gërvalla, Serbia does not have a foreign policy independent of Moscow and its actions often serve as a reflection of Russian interests in the Western Balkans.
She mentioned Vučić’s statement that “the world order is dead” and the warning about doubling the Serbian army, describing them as clear political messages coming from and addressed to Russia.
“The fact is that no one is threatening Serbia. The real threat lies with its leadership, which, instead of building a normal European state focused on EU reforms and democracy, dreams of a regional empire – a Russian mentality in miniature,” Gervalla stressed.
She warned that such rhetoric and militaristic orientation pose a serious threat to regional stability and European security, recalling that history has proven that Serbia’s destabilizing policies have had serious consequences for the continent.
Gërvalla has called on the European Union and international partners to be vigilant about developments in Serbia and not to ignore the signals that, according to her, indicate an increasingly deeper rapprochement between Belgrade and Moscow.
