We are seeing a domestic law enforcement instrument (a drug indictment) being used to justify a war powers action (invasion and regime change).
That is a gigantic shift. The Constitution separates these powers for a reason. As the Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chair asked: ‘Does this mean any large country can indict the ruler of a smaller adjacent country and take that person out?’
Regardless of Maduro’s guilt, establishing that a prosecutor’s indictment can authorize a military occupation bypasses Congress entirely. It feels like we are rewriting the rules of sovereignty and war powers in real-time.
This is a massive development that significantly undercuts the legal justification for the entire operation.

Not rewriting the rules, just doing whatever the fuck they want, when they want. Our elected cowards are in it for their own wealth and power. They won’t be doing anything about it.

The world really needs to start dumping US treasury securities and selling off publicly traded stock on the US stock market. Make the wannabe tech oligarchs feel it too.
Yes, there would be pain felt in the short term, but in the longterm it really would break the US’ stranglehold on the world. As an American it pains me to say this but the US simply cannot be trusted anymore. The entire reason why International Law exists is to prevent world wars. The US is deliberately breaking International Law, and if the US invades Cuba and Greenland, well guess what we are that much closer to a world war. The US’ action will 100% embolden China to invade Taiwan.

The degree to which this administration is comfortable just blatantly lying isnt surprising. What’s surprising is that they dont even bother to tell believable lies anymore. It’s all just so insanely lazy. The LEAST they could do as a mild token of respect is put some damn effort into the lies instead of just saying any old thing.

it’s going to be hilarious when the jury announces “not guilty.” Trumps DOJ has struggled with the most basic shit, I don’t see them pulling off a win here.

To put that much force out there has cost a couple billion in expenses (fuel, food, pay, etc).
Of course, the fleet assets would have deployed elsewhere and those costs would have occurred.
On the other hand, air assets, satellite tasking, spec ops, etc. are the sorts of things that would likely have not occurred and thus incurred cost.
What is the economic return on that investment? Unknown at this time. The legal impact is significant and has barely begun to unfold. These are dangerous times.

This administration won’t release him no matter what the court decides but I suspect if his lawyers wise up and go straight to trial rather than drag out ‘presidential immunity’ arguments the DOJ probably doesn’t have the evidence to prove the case.

Isn’t this group the entire basis for his drug trafficking charge as they have been trying to claim it is tied with the govt? So now they are saying ut is not tied with the govt and then going to try to charge a head of state (who has an army and does live in america) on american gun laws and thats it?

how many arrest operations are followed by expropriation of a nations natural resources? Why would Trump threaten a second strike? Threaten the acting president to comply “or else?” The drug arrest excuse nearly immediately proved to be 100% pure uncut bullshit. no one with any sense believed it.
