Sweden Wins U20 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship

The Swedish national team won the World Junior Championship in the Top Division, with the tournament taking place in the United States.

In the final, the Swedes defeated the Czech Republic 4-2. It was a unique final between these two teams in half a century of the tournament’s history.

In the bronze medal game, Canada defeated Finland 6-3.

With its third World Junior title, Sweden rose to the top of the tournament for the first time since 2012. Since then, wins have typically been shared among Finland, the United States, and Canada.

The Ukrainian national team retained its place in Division 1A of the U20 World Championship. The team has slated opponents for the next season: Denmark, Kazakhstan, Austria, Slovenia, and Hungary.
