good
Schiphol right now seen less like an airport, more like a giant snow globe with cancelled flights inside.
Everybody is now complaining about the shit infrastructure at Schiphol for dealing with snow, whereas probably not too long ago everybody involved in managing the airport would have been complaining about the cost of keeping de-ice and snow equipment around when climate change means we rarely have to deal with it. It sucks for the people that need to fly right now, but in the long run, is this really such a giant problem that an airport has reduced capacity for a week when dealing with a bit of unexpected winter conditions?
> Consecutive days of winter weather has pushed airport flight cancellations towards 2,500
Wow
They apparently have 25 de-icing machines and are literally running out of de-icing fluid what a mess
Abandon planes, embrace trains
This airport is such a shitshow every year, utter incompetent management and somehow they stay at the helm.
I heard, trains don’t need deicing fluid.
Already been stuck there for two days. Hopefully the flights goes on tomorrow…
Edit; And nope. Just got the info that the flight is cancelled..
I left my work posting abroad on Saturday morning after spending new year working away from family and kid and, I won’t be home before Thursday at the minimum.
Was supposed to fly back on Monday. Rebooked tickets for tomorrow… but I think I’ll be staying here for another week or so to tough it out. Maybe try again next week…
I just want to fly back home and be ill in my own bed.
This is simply the most snow we’ve seen in years, there’s no way to be prepared for every situation.
Also fun fact: Schiphol is one of the most PFAS contaminated areas in the Netherlands thanks to the chemicals in de-icing fluid
I get that the Netherlands very rarely sees weather like this and that they can’t be expected to have all the equipment ready to go, but this seems a bit like amateur hour.

Our national broadcasting network went down to Schiphol to film the enormous queue over there.
When they reached the last person, they went all in her face with a “Hello, you’re the last in line. How does that feel?”Â
She shot lightning with her eyes and then complained in broken ~~Dutch~~ English that they still had her goddamn luggage, while off-screen two more people lined up.
Camera panned towards them, back to her: “You’re not the last in line anymore.”
Just wait until the snow is over. Don’t de-ice the planes.
What a mess. I hope everybody will be reimbursed for the taxi and hotel costs.
Just need heat
Schiphol, ‘best airport in the world’, running out of de-icing fluid and cancelling hundreds of flights
Do somebody know if the intercontinental flights also cancelled?
Main reason for the delays is that all planes have to change to studded tires. What a mess, they could have saved a lot off time if they had started changing last week. /r
Oh man, I am about to Fly out tmr, so far not canceled, but I am bit worried. Hard to take the train to Asia.Â
I’ve been stuck here since Saturday. No idea when can I actually fly home.
