Out of curiosity what is considered the “darkest days” of US imperialism?
Vietnam era of coups in SA and war in Vietnam? Colonial expansion out west in the 1800s?
With the Vietnam era it was largely CIA installing puppets and with the Vietnam war, the South asked for America help/intervention. Whether they were forced to ask or had no choice or a puppet figurehead asking its master is for a larger debate.
This is just open, blatant, and dumb imperialism. It will hurt Americas interests far more than the previous eras of “imperialism”.
I’d argue it’s almost worse when considered in the context of the times. At least in the 1800s it was considered in the context of logical US interests, but Trump’s imperialism serves only himself and is incredibly destructive to US long-term prosperity.
Taking Greenland by force will permanently destroy the Euro-American alliance and hand the rest of the century definitively to China. It’s quite possibly the single stupidest thing they could do.
It’s more like a Caligula situation than anything based on US-first.
Does anyone have the long form quote behind paywall?
Can’t get behind it, find archive or see anything else online
This type of blatant violation of whatever is left of international law and such a bold display of unrestrained power should never be condoned. The US is going down a dangerous self-destructive path that I don’t want Canada to follow; there is not reason why we should be celebrating this violation. The fact that this happened in the 21st century, so unabashed, in broad daylight, the US does not hide its crimes anymore. Beyond scary and the response from our leaders is nauseating. The rest of this century will definitely see a decline in US power and trust and they’re only forcing the world to support China/axis of resistance.
