After a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing that took place in Paris on Tuesday, outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said that Bulgaria will participate in all areas where it has the capacity to contribute to European security, the government press service reported.
The talks were attended by the heads of state and government of 35 countries, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, representatives of European institutions and NATO, as well as representatives of the United States led by President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff. The meeting discussed processes for achieving lasting and sustainable peace in Ukraine and security guarantees for the country, but also for Europe as a whole.
Zhelyazkov said: “Bulgaria, in accordance with the decision of the National Assembly, will participate in the Maritime Security domain with Romania and Turkiye in the areas where it currently operates with the mine countermeasures group.”
The Prime Minister said that leaders at the meeting united around the so-called Paris Declaration, a document that sets out the basic framework for pan-European and partnership efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace, as well as security guarantees for Ukraine and Europe from the United States. He added: “This is verification of the implementation of the peace agreements by all participants in the Coalition of the Willing, guarantees for increasing the sustainability of Ukraine’s armed forces so that there can be restraint and protection in the event of hostile actions after peace is achieved.”
Zhelyazkov stated: “Bulgaria welcomes the efforts of President Trump and his team, first and foremost to achieve a ceasefire, but also, of course, to achieve a lasting peace. As is already clear, achieving a just peace is a difficult decision, but false peace must not be achieved. And this was very clearly emphasized in the declaration that was adopted today [on Tuesday].”
