The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned Bulgarian citizens on Tuesday that heavy rainfall in Albania has led to difficult weather conditions. The northern regions of the country and the Durres region are the most affected, with reported landslides, collapses, and flooded road sections.
Unstable weather conditions are expected to continue in the coming days, with rainfall, strong winds, and an increased risk of local flooding, landslides, and snowfall in mountainous areas. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Bulgarian citizens travelling or staying in Albania inform themselves in advance about the current situation by following the announcements of the local authorities and the official forecasts of the national meteorological service MeteoAlb.
Drivers should be particularly careful due to slippery roads, especially likely in higher areas. Cars going through mountainous areas should be equipped for winter conditions and driven at lower speeds.
Heavy rainfall that has covered much of Albania and Kosovo over the past 24 hours has caused flooding, transportation difficulties, power outages, and rising river levels in both countries, according to Albanian and Kosovar media reports.
