Leaves are a bigger problem.
Tracks are easily cleaned and the snow ist high enough to cause real problems.
Sometimes they even spray a little sand in front of the wheels to get more grip.
That doesn’t work so well with leaf goo

If they play the Brabançonne in all carriages I promise I’ll go outside at 8PM to clap for the NMBS.

People love to hate on NMBS but they’re quite alright given what they have to work with.
And definitely more than alright if you look at other European countries. Jesus.

I have been traveling almost every week between France and Belgium for last 3 years. More often than not, I found SNCB (and SNCF) quite punctual. Eurostar has sometimes delays.
I also came across some statistic comparison of train punctuality in west europe. Belgium, France, Netherlands were decent. Of course Germany was not doing better.

I honestly don’t understand how we’re like just next to each other and the one country just stops all railroad activities as soon as they’re even the slightest bit of slow and in the other country it’s business as usual (and even if there are breakdowns, there’s emergency teams to solve those in reasonable time).
