The last 2 years I have spent a lot of time in Macedonia, probably about 6 months in total over different periods, and all I can say is that I had a feeling of belonging and being at ease whenever I was there. I know, I know, you probably think: oh no, another westerner that came here to pretend to be a rich king in this country.. but to me it was more than that. Whenever I would see the cross glancing over Skopje, I just felt.. home.

I ate the best pizza ever somewhere around Kicevo (Dobrenoec), I got defeated by the smallest street in Veles driving through it with a big ass rental car, I swam in some radioactive lake (forgot where it was, it’s one of the pictures, might be Tikvesh), I had the world famous Mekitsa in Straza, had some amazing nut bar things in Bitola, I celebrated Christmas and Easter, attended 2 weddings, and I could go on for days…

I truly enjoyed being there, never felt unsafe, people were typically very warm and nice, and Skopje is the first big city I’ve been where I didn’t feel anxious walking around, even at 4 in the night.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to come for a bit now, but hopefully one day I’ll be back.

Added some photo’s from the past 2 years. Virtual kudos to whomever recognizes all the places (some are the same city ofcourse).

i love you

  1. You managed to find my favorite spot on Vodno. The small pavilion with a beautiful panorama of Skopje. Good job. Glad you like Macedonia. You’ll always welcome here.

Where are you from by the way?

Kad si sam, kad je sve tužno, ti se sjeti nje. Makedonija ti pruža ljubavi sve.

I can relate! I’m from England and Macedonia is my favourite place. Not only is it a beautiful country but I feel a sense of belonging there that I have never felt anywhere else! Everyone is so friendly, so easy to make new friends I love it
