The “Karystianou Party”, which arose from the movement that developed around the tragic accident in Tempi, is heading towards the next national elections with it being organised at a “rapid pace”, as Maria Karystianou revealed while speaking to Kontra Channel, giving a first glimpse of the “Union” that she is preparing.

The pyramid of “Union”

Regarding the organisational and administrative pyramid of the new party, Maria Karystianou did not appear absolute regarding the choice of its leader, although she left open the possibility that she herself would lead the project, “pointing”, in any case, towards the side of its social base for the election of the President.

As for the new party’s program, it is being prepared by a “Committee of Wise Men”, as it was said, with a view to presenting it in the next national elections, whenever they are held, since Maria Karystianou’s declared goal is for her party to come out on top in the next ballot box.

With this high bar, the “Union”, that is, Maria Karystianou’s new party, will rely on fundamentally new people and reject the “old political personnel”.

New faces that will also emerge from the CVs received by the president of the Association of Families of the Victims of Tempi, creating an informal pool of executives.

The only exception is the current MEP of SYRIZA PS, Nikolas Farantouris, for whom Karystianou spoke very positively, in contrast to the former Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras.

Asked about Tsipras, Karystianou argued that “the political system will not go down without a fight, it will obviously try in every way to deceive the citizens again” against the background of the former Prime Minister’s rebranding, while she reiterated that:

“We have open accounts with the old politicians. Mr. Tsipras has signed a memorandum, and even the worst one, in which he has mortgaged the state as if it were his own property for 100 years.”

“Mr. Tsipras was a man who had never governed before. He gave hope, he lifted us up and then he brought us down,” and “that was the worst thing for me because now it will be much more difficult for the people to trust a person,” Karystianou concluded.

Alarm in Koumoundourou

However, in the case of Alexis Tsipras’ associates, this is not the first time they have considered the possibility of Maria Karystianou’s electoral defeat as a possible scenario, which also applies to any parties that may appear on the horizon.

New or under-construction parties, however, are not expected to “update” the former prime minister’s next moves, both in terms of book launches and broader initiatives.

In the case of the current SYRIZA PS, however, a “Karystianou party” under construction, as THEMA had highlighted, with a possible diarchy at the top level, is creating generalised unrest in Koumoundourou due to the political alliance of Karystianou with the party’s MEP, Nikolas Farantouris.

The fact that Farantouris has characterised such a movement as “welcome” from the very beginning has caused embarrassment around Koumoundourou, even more so when only yesterday, in successive television appearances, the SYRIZA PS MEP emphasised that “there is a common understanding with Maria Karystianou.”

Following this, Nikolas Farantouris was called by phone late yesterday for explanations by the president of SYRIZA PS, Sokratis Famellos, in order to justify his current stance. As the “Karystianou party” has not yet taken shape, neither has Farantouris officially taken a position on its essence, while in Koumoundourou they are keeping a low profile, although SYRIZA PS executives do not ignore that “a premiere with a stolen seat” would weigh on the climate against Karystianou.

For his part, however, the SYRIZA MEP reportedly replied yesterday to Sokratis Famellos that when he decides something else he will inform him, remaining for now in Koumoundourou’s line.

At the same time, other SYRIZA PS executives believe that the current outcome of Koumoundourou’s relationship with Farantouris also weighs heavily on the current leadership team, since despite the hyperactivity of the Kefalonian MEP, he was not sufficiently utilised by taking on, for example, a portfolio at the European Parliament level, nor was he integrated with demands into the internal party’s daily life, despite the large number of crosses he received in the last European elections.

Nevertheless, there is no shortage of those executives who have suggested the possible expulsion of Farantouris from the Eurogroup of SYRIZA PS, although such a move would truly decimate it after the expulsion of Nikos Pappas, but also the “silence” that most people complain about in Elena Kountoura.

However, according to Koumoundourou sources, Farantouris, in the explanations he gave to Famellos, told him that “of course it is SYRIZA” and he will clarify it immediately, giving Koumoundourou some breathing space for the time being for any new departures.

Moreover, the prolonged silence of the other MEP, Elena Kountoura, is enough to concern Koumoundourou, as Kountoura is extremely sparing in her public interventions (except during the European elections), while she was the one who had invited Maria Karystianou to a special event for Tempi in April 2024 at the European Parliament.

Polakis, KKE and in the background Zoi

All of the above, in any case, has upset a large part of the “progressive” world, especially when the opposition parties will be called upon to share power in even smaller pieces, during its tenure. However, before the official “voice of the party”, Pavlos Polakis took a position for the “Karystianou party”, asking in public from Nikolas Farantouris to clarify his position. A move, which would be accompanied either by restoring the relationship with Koumoundourou, or by.. resignation, although the latter would not be an easy task.

However, there are not a few executives who believe that Nikolas Farantouris should resign, if he ultimately intends to follow Maria Karystianou in her new political goal.

The target that received the most fire yesterday, since the Perissos executives were positioned yesterday for the “Karystianos party”, who speak of age-old… expressions about “purification”, at the moment when the president of the Greek Solution, Kyriakos Velopoulos, emphasised that “a people that vote for the unemployed, the unemployed, other people who have not even solved their own problems (contrary to what our ancestors said), is governed by every scoundrel and invests in “saviours” of nothing.”

With “photographic” spikes and with the slogan… Justice, the President of the Freedom Sailing, Zoe Konstantopoulou, accompanied her New Year’s message, a move that was interpreted as an indirect criticism of Maria Karystianou, if not as competition for her new career and politics in particular.

In detail, Zoe Kondantopoulou’s post:

“Happy Birthday, for another important and symbolic celebration!

May we have light, a clear spirit, a clear conscience, open eyes, an open soul, an open mind!

Love, empathy, justice, Peace!

With all my heart, I wish strength to all of us who are determined, in this important year that has just begun and has shown that it will have great trials, to banish all filth and corruption, to bring light, transparency, justice and respect for the law and the rights of all people.

Soul and Strength to our farmers too! Your struggle is sacred, a life-long struggle for the whole of society, against a corrupt government, which, after eating your money, now boldly declares that its patience has run out!

Our patience and persistence to support your cause have not run out, and that is what we will do!”
