      Omdat een uitrol heel erg duur is, amper personeel te vinden is die dit “wilt doen” en omdat boomers/gemeentepolitiek ook niet mee willen.

      Maak nu eens een overlay met ´vermassacreerde trottoirs´ om te zien waar er al fiber in de grond is gestoken.

      They stopped putting fiber in my region cuz people complained about all the road works.

      Coincidentally they also complain that the telenet network is crap.

      Echt ik word moedeloos als ik zie dat de nieuwbouwwijk naast mijn deur Fiber heeft, maar er bij mij niks gepland is tot in de verre omstreken!

      Note that for Wallonie “1 network” doesn’t necessary means “1 operator” as there is an ongoing initiative for a shared network : [https://unifiber.be/](https://unifiber.be/)

      Also, they did work for fiber in my street and more ongoing in my town and yet it isn’t flagged as planned on the map.

      Is this considered “easy” infrastructure by any means? It’s literally opening up almost every sidewalk in the entire country. For the average consumer there is also no incentive to need fiber, except maybe for future-proofing. Seems like they are making good progress, I hope it will become widespread in a decade, probably just in time for the actual need of those speeds.

      For regions with 1 network and a second one planned they overlay both red and blue but you can only barely see the blue. Makes it look way worse than it is in Brussels and antwerp

      So, in Walonie you have to pay subscription to have Fiber. Proximus charge us 7€ for having fiber. Just in Belgium ❤️

      Hier hebben ze meer dan een jaar geleden de ganse wijk open gesmeten en voor 3 netwerken wachtbuizen gelegd. Sinds dan, crickets… :/

      Ik heb het nu sinds een dik half jaar en wat een verademing. Bij Telenet betaalde ik 86 euro per maand voor internet en TV, nu betaal ik slechts 36 euro per maand voor stabielere fiber met lagere latency. TV kijk ik gewoon via de apps van VTM/VRT/Play dus ik zie geen reden om hiervoor te betalen, plus mijn adblocker blokkeert ook de reclame in deze apps. Ook eigen keuze van router en in plaats van coax versterker + Telenet modem + eigen wifi router heb ik nu enkel een ONT en eigen router, en per jaar is dat ook een 20 euro bespaard op de energiekosten.

      Toen ik 20 jaar geleden een ADSL lijntje liet aansluiten zei de technieker: wacht maar, binnenkort FTTH! De meesten hebben het nog altijd niet. Een schande tegenover andere Europese landen.

      Ze zijn hem bij mij in de straat ook komen leggen een tijdje geleden, van Wyre/Telenet. Ik zat er op te wachten, maar snap nu wel de weerstand die het vaak krijgt en de houding van veel mensen tegenover die aannemers.

      Misschien stond het zo op plan, maar mijn (niet zo lang geleden) proper aangelegde oprit open gebroken om een paar meter te overbruggen waar het eigenlijk niet nodig was, om dan te eindigen op een plaats die nog 4 meter van mijn energiebocht ligt. Bij andere huizen dan weer gewoon onder het fietspad gebleven zoals een normale mens zou doen. Voortuin zo maar achtergelaten, met planten eruit enzo. Trek er uw plan maar mee.

      Tijdens de werken ook mijn bestaande coax overgesneden, net zoals bij een paar andere huizen in de straat.

      Ik zit al 9 weken zonder internet, TV,… Contact opgenomen met Telenet op dag 1: schadedossier was al geopend, ze konden niks doen om het te versnellen. Na 5 weken terug contact opgenomen: “Ah oei, we waren het vergeten doorgeven aan onze onderaannemer. Binnen 2 weken komen ze.”.

      Ondertussen dus nog altijd niemand gezien.

      Ik weet niet waarom hier altijd alles zo moeizaam moet gaan, maar ik houd mijn hart al vast voor het moment dat ze hem in huis komen steken.

      Ik heb fiber van mijn garage tot aan de straat. De straat is ook al volledig open gebroken maar ergens ontbreekt er nog iets verderop waardoor we er niet op kunnen 🙁

      Ik woon in een eiland zonder fiber terwijl elke gemeente rondom het al wel heeft. Zeer frustrerend.

      Motherfuckers tore up the pavement to install those weird hollow cables but now fiber still isn’t available here. No time estimate either. Weirdly Belgian.

      De overkant van mijn straat heeft al 5 jaar fiber. Mijn kant: voorlopig geen plannen.

      Funny how my parent’s village was “planned” in 2022, then dropped in 2023, then “planned” again in 2024, then dropped again in 2025, and still nothing. There’s still stuck with slow VDSL and no current hope for FTTH.

      I’d say there are several reasons for that. We have a crazy amount of administrative burden to roll out fiber. Some city councils make it extra hard for operators, that definitely does not help. I’m not sure if it’s on the operators’ side or the government, but the roll-out started really late, and while France have over 90% of household “fiber passed”, starting quite early its roll-out, we did it quite late. I’ve heard we also had a good copper and a good coax network, while France’s was not as good, forcing the operators to roll out fiber quickly to offer a good quality of service. That must have helped, because fiber is wayyyyyy more expensive than it used to be ten years ago, making it a huge investment for operators. In the meantime, Internet subscriptions are already really pricey here, so the operators shouldn’t be able to increase the price of their subscriptions by much. The investment would be therefore take quite some time to break even, if it ever does (for some, less dense areas). I’m really wondering what the operators/the government will come up with to meet the EU’s GIA requirements (all households must be able to have a 1Gbps connection).

      Ik woon hier op een of andere rots waar alles bovengronds naartoe zal moeten. Eerlijk is eerlijk, ik ben al blij goede elektriciteit, stromend water, en een degelijke connectie via VOO te hebben. Kabel zal wel eens lukken tegen dat ik met pensioen ben

      We don’t suck at infrastructure, we are one of the few countries where 99,98% of an entire country has access to 1 gigabit connections.

      Not to mention just like in the other Western countries, permits are a lengthy process and that’s why it takes so long, the ISPs have the capital to roll out every region in Berlgium in a month, but sadly enough in some cities/towns permits are on a 2 year delay baseline, before they even get handled.

      Ik ben maar overgestapt naar Starlink. Ipv 20mbps op koper van Proximus zit ik nu gemiddeld tussen de 300 – 400 mbps op satelliet internet. En het is zelfs goedkoper dan Proximus of Telenet. Zelfs met deze sneeuw is het 100x beter dan Proximus. Het gaat wss nog 5 – 10 jaar duren voor we hier eindelijk fiber krijgen.

      Yeah that map is shit. The data is wrong. Else I’d have had fiber in my old apartment.

      Still angry at Proximus for coming last year telling me I had to change to them to keep functional internet. It’s not even in red now either.

      We suck because VOO had a monopoly in Wallonia for so long with their weird ass hybrid coax/fiber infrastructure.

      And now there’s like 2-3 companies that are digging and get the fiber in the ground, and they only started a couple of years ago.

      For so long we had those average download speed with slow upload speed, it was incredible 10 years ago but it’s crap today. It was still sold at 70€ per month and not much people complained so why would you spend money for a modern network?

      Omg, there’s fiber in a little hamlet in the middle of nowhere 3km away from my village….

      Still waiting on any wired internet where I live :s The 300 GB data cap on 5G is getting old.

      Why they have to re-open the road for every company to put their own fiberline, why not have a shared one.

      Bij ons in de buurt zijn ze elke mogelijke straat aan het vernieuwen, maar gij denkt toch niet dat ze meteen fiber leggen zeker?

      We gaan eerst **alle straten** openbreken, vernieuwen, om ze dan opnieuw open te breken, fiber te leggen en terug toe te gooien. Vrij logisch ook he, anders is het te goedkoop allemaal.

      To me it felt like Telenet could not be arsed anymore.

      I am moving in 3 weeks, Telenet has fiber outside, the new building has fiber inside, and is proximus connected, waiting for Telenet to do the connection to the house.

      I called Telenet, told them I was and explained the situation. They asked for the move date and planned cancellation then. Didn’t even bring up connecting the house or anything. Proactively offered and planned the cancellation.
