Parole is what, 3.3 years? And that’s not including time served. A literal slap on the wrist for torturing/killing a child.
This country’s priorities are sincerely broken.

Now name the Alberta social worker who handed her back to those murderers- when she had loving grandparents trying to adopt her who had raised her since birth. They are just as complicit in her murder.
I hope it haunts them forever. They should be ashamed.

Don’t click on the article. The title is so stupid. And such a disrespect to the FIVE year old who passed away.
Publications that use AI or do titles like this for click bait don’t deserve our traffic.

I just can’t understand this pathetic sentence! WTF!! Poor child suffered before she died. Can’t say on Reddit what I hope happens to her “mother”. Fucking loser

Heartbreaking story. That girl endured such suffering

We humans are capable of such disgusting acts of cruelty. It shakes me to my core with rage when I read stuff like this.

Clearly she never planned to be a mother but it’s disgusting she didn’t let her parents adopt her when they were going through the process (and Alberta Social Services was fine with it).

JFC I can’t stand hearing about this stuff. Chloe Guan-Branch was her name. Take a moment of silence for her. That poor child didn’t deserve this.

Some people shouldn’t have children. Based on what she did, she is one of them. And it is for the same reason that I will not have any either. But still, no one in their right minds would refuse to take their child to a doctor when that child is sick to the point that she could not walk. In fact, any normal person would have brought a child to the ER. So, she was intentionally letting the girl suffer by failing to get help.
What is clear is that once she is out of prison, that criminal record will make it much harder for her to get many jobs because she won’t pass a background check. Any job that has to do with children or the elderly would be off-limits because of the vulnerable sector check.

> Chloe lived with her grandfather Sam Guan and his family in Calgary after B.C.’s child welfare service removed the child from her parents a few months after her birth. Sam Gaun’s family was in the middle of a kinship adoption process when Alberta’s child welfare service decided to give Chloe back to her mother, a year and a half before her death. (Guan family)
Child welfare service has blood on their hands.

Not sure if I’m more disgusted by the parents or the Alberta government agency that gave her back to them.
Hope there are repercussions in the government agency, as she’d be alive if it wasn’t for them.
This one’s too painful to read. 10 years isn’t enough jail time for what this woman did to her child.

That poor child – she looks pale and uncomfortable, forced to smile for the photos before her death. Her expression is more open, happy and comfortable in the photos when in the care of her grandparents

I wish news organizations would be more bold. It should be Child killer gets 10 years for killing her five year old daughter. Or Mother who killed her five year old gets 10 years. All those who commit culpable homicide are killers and manslaughter is just culpable homicides that are not murder. It’s time we called manslaughters the killers they are.

“For six days, her mother Ada Guan and Guan’s boyfriend Justin Cassie-Berube did not get Chloe the help she needed. They searched online about her increasingly dire symptoms and Guan consulted a pharmacist, but they never took the girl to a doctor — even as she lost the ability to walk, became incontinent, vomited repeatedly and was groaning in pain.
Court heard they were worried that taking Chloe to hospital would alert officials to the physical abuse she’d been enduring at the hands of Cassie-Berube, including a strike to Chloe’s mouth on her fifth birthday, May 10, that split the skin under her lip.
The girl whose birth on a plane had made international headlines five years earlier died alone in her room on May 15, 2020, in her soiled bed, as Guan watched TV in the living room and Cassie-Berube was out.”
Well that’s disgusting. 10 years is also a travesty. Should be the max (which is like 20 years I think with no parole).
