ATLANTA (AP) — The College Football Playoff semifinal at the Peach Bowl is a celebration of the Big Ten’s strength with No. 1-seed Indiana facing No. 5-seed Oregon. The game is a rematch. Indiana won at Oregon 30-20 on October 11 to hand the Ducks their only loss. Indiana is undefeated. Each team is coming off dominant wins. Indiana overwhelmed Alabama 38-3 in the Rose Bowl as Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza threw three touchdown passes. The Ducks shut out Texas Tech 23-0 in the Orange Bowl. Brandon Finney Jr. had two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Braden Smith finished with 23 points and seven assists and made two late free throws to help No. 5 Purdue fend off Washington’s late rally for an 81-73 victory. Trey Kaufman-Renn added 14 points and 14 rebounds. The Boilermakers have won five straight are a school best 14-1 for the ninth time in program history. Smith was 10 of 15 from the field with only one 3-pointer while committing six turnovers and spent nearly 8 1/2 consecutive minutes on the bench after drawing his third foul with 4:20 left in the first half. Hannes Steinbach finished with 17 points to lead the Huskies.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Lamar Wilkerson scored 24 points, including all 16 of Indiana’s points in a key second half run, and the Hoosiers defeated Maryland 84-66 for their fourth straight win. Wilkerson had a personal 16-4 run in a 5 1/2-minute stretch, putting Indiana ahead 59-44 with 12 minutes remaining. He made 5 of 7 shots in the run, including 3 of 4 3-pointers. A three-point play by Reed Bailey gave the Hoosiers a 70-52 lead with about 7 1/2 minutes remaining and Maryland trailed by at least 13 points the rest of the way. Elijah Saunders led the Terrapins with 16 points.
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Jaloni Cambridge scored a career-high 41 points, 29 in the second half, and No. 19 Ohio State defeated Illinois 78-69, snapping the Illini’s 10-game home winning streak. Cambridge scored 12 of Ohio State’s 16 points in the third quarter and the Buckeyes took a 52-46 lead into the final frame. She scored another seven points early in the fourth, leading to a 61-48 lead for Ohio State. The Illini cut their deficit to five points with about 2 minutes remaining, but Cambridge answered with a 3-pointer and a layup to put Ohio State up 73-63 with 1:13 remaining. Cearah Parchment scored 20 points for Illinois.
ATLANTA (AP) — Oregon won’t have running back Jordon Davison for its Peach Bowl College Football semifinal matchup with Indiana on Friday. The CFP issued an availability report Tuesday that indicated Davison has been ruled out. The CFP report didn’t specify why Davison has been ruled out. The Oregonian reported that had had broken his clavicle in the Ducks’ 23-0 Orange Bowl quarterfinal victory over Texas Tech. Davison has rushed for 667 yards and 15 touchdowns on 113 carries this season.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Safety Caleb Downs is the latest Ohio State standout to declare for the NFL draft. Downs announced his decision Wednesday during the “Downs 2 Business” podcast with brother Josh Downs, a wide receiver with the Indianapolis Colts. Caleb Downs is projected as a top-10 pick and one of the first defensive players who could be selected in April’s draft. He won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top defensive back and the Lott IMPACT Trophy as college football’s top safety this season. Downs finishes ninth in Heisman Trophy voting and was third on the Buckeyes with 68 tackles and also had two interceptions this season.

The sixth-seeded Rebels will play for a spot in the national championship game when they meet No. 10 seed Miami at the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday. Big Ten teams won the last two national titles.
