  1. My cousin flies helicopters for a living, and last night he captured this terrifying shot.

  2. Explains why I’m covered in a smoke cloud in New Zealand. Weather here is coming from your neck of the woods, been an orange tinge in the sky all day

  3. Is Yea safe? I have a mate from there and haven’t heard from him today, he may have evacuated I’m not sure.

  4. Good reminder that while bush fires can be out of sight out of mind for some people they’re actually apocalyptic looking nightmares.

  5. For those who are arriving from the Reddit popular page and are wondering: it’s pronounced “yay” (although you just sort of cut off at the second y rather than pronouncing it strongly).

  6. I have this weird juxtaposition where bushfire smoke triggers an olfactory response that takes me back to my childhood during the Black Saturday bushfires. I remember it as a pleasant time despite the catastrophic nature of it all.

That is terrifying. Hell on earth. My heart breaks for the people and fauna trying to flee this.

My car broke down in Yea trying to escape the fires. Had some friends pick me up but I’m so stressed. Met a few of the locals waiting, wishing them all the luck in the world

Jesus, looks like you’re flying over Hell itself. My thoughts go out to everyone affected, and ofcourse the firefighters who are out there battling this.
