  1. Seriously asking: when could we ever?

    Depending on how far back you want to go, and what you consider hostile behaviour, the Americans have started two wars against us, established multiple insurgencies against us, routinely abuse our territorial boundaries… actually, commas aren’t going to be enough;

    Regularly ignore our sovereignty,

    Hobble our industry,

    Neuter our defence capabilities,

    Force us to give them access to our resources,

    Attack our agricultural sector,

    And so on and so forth.

    All this, everything I listed, occurred *before* Trump. I *specifically* used examples that predate this administration. Want another list of what *this* administration has done? I’ll spare you, because you’re on Reddit, so I’m sure you’re aware.

    Canada has *only* been treated “favourably”, because we make a good buffer state, and nearly always behave like a good little vassal and align ourselves with them.

    The only thing that has changed under Trump, is that he’s pushing on the *world* what his nation has always pushed on *us*, and shocker, the rest of the world finds it utterly reprehensible. So now it’s in vogue to oppose it.

    Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t me saying “oh, well then if it’s always been this way, who cares?” I’m saying “it’s always been this way, and it’s beyond time it’s addressed, but let’s not pretend like it’ll go away or stop if Trump disappears”.

    Canada needs to diversify our defence, and trade partnerships, and stop buying into the lie that some call “the peace dividend” and accept that it’s always been a Peace Loan, and now we’re paying interest on it, by investing in a robust military, with *actual* capabilities, with *force projection* being the minimum standard.

    Our country is the same size of Europe, and we struggle to move troops around within our borders. This is unacceptable.
