    WTF?

Do we have such a thing as consequences in Canada anymore?

We are not a real country anymore.

  2. You’d think the union already bargaining from a position weakness would be a little more conscious of optics like this

  3. “Until he can provide evidence of his fitness to return to work, with or without accommodation, (he) is to be considered to be on authorized leave without pay, with access to such benefits as the collective agreement provides”

So he’s been put on leave without pay due to his medical condition (PTSD) until he can provide evidence that is able to come back to work, instead of being outright fired.

Not exactly what the title is indicating lol but typical of course.

  4. So if this very logic applies to this person. Maybe I can get my job back that I was fired at for raising concerns to HR, *right?*

  5. You should read how delusional the CP workers are in their sub, it’s soooo hard to walk and deliver letters that are sorted for you.

  6. It’s almost like “jobs for life” as a policy isn’t working out for Canada Post or Taxpayers.

The full article is paywalled but ptsd is in title. This is obviously someone with serious psychological problems who needs help.

If you want to see when canada post have receive a letter at the sorting facility vs when you receive it at your house just check the back of your letter at the bottom.. there is a orange “codebar” (work great with a blacklight) and the end you have the date that canada post have receive it..

Then the pro Union types get upset when we say that they protect the least desirable, productive and capable employees.

I would make this guy’s new job just to sit in a corner, where everyone could see him and do nothing everyday. Most people would go mad, he would be happy.

  10. So?

People can become unwell. I have a coworker on medical leave, with pay, because they hurt their knee. Another is going on stress leave, with pay.

Leave them alone. It’s hard enough existing already.

  11. Mental health issues are so weird and I hope I never go through something that changes my behavior like that. Hopefully his treatments work and he us a healthy member of society

Sounds like another reason to stay away from Canada post for anything important.

They won’t even fire employees for holding peoples important mail.

I used to feel really bad for Canada post, but them, and mostly the union have dug their own grave.

Imagine a union that’s supposed to protect people’s jobs, actively ruining the company that employees these people. Crazy

“Canada post worker that committed mail theft placed on leave with access to benefits” fixed the title. Fire this fucking guy, seriously. He had 6000 pieces of mail in his *personal vehicle*.

Mental health is a motherfucker but it isn’t an excuse for this type of behaviour. When people start spewing anti-union rhetoric, it’s directly because of situations like this.

How many of y’all would be able to keep your jobs after committing theft?

Politicians beholden to billionaires and corporate interests keep stealing our stuff and getting to keep their jobs as well, so, eh, why not.

  15. [They’ll be replaced by robots within five years](https://www.starship.xyz/) and we’ll never have to read about the failures of Canada Post again.

What this union has gotten away with—especially in the past two years in an economy where people are desperate for stable, good paying jobs—is a national disgrace.

Especially jobs without any educational or specialized skill requirements. Ugh. This is the only situation where I’m cheering for AI.

  16. This kind of shit is how we’ve gotten where we are, if there’s no mechanism for accountability, people who don’t care about the rules will just do whatever. It’s true for workers, CEOs, and polticians.

This headline reminds me of the McDonalds Hot Coffee lawsuit- make readers irate for the wrong thing. Canada Post is not reinstating the job out of their incompetence or wastefulness they are being directed to through arbitration.

The mail carrier’s actions were determined to be as a result of a valid disability, and they are being put on unpaid leave, with the insured benefits afforded to them through their employment contract, until such time they are no longer disabled and are fit to return (or resign/retire).

Is it terrible this person hoarded mail, inconveniencing/harming others? Yes.
Should there have been processes to prevent or catch the delivery interruptions sooner? Yes.
Was the carrier malicious or nefarious? Looks like arbitration found no, this person was incapacitated by an illness.
Is Canada Post at fault for being directed to reinstate the carrier to leave of absence? No.
