Yeg again a group of tourists are in trouble at Gaustatoppen. Emergency services are called out. It is bloody cold and exposed up there. Hope they’ll make it out.
My plea to all, domestic and foreign, about to attempt this peak now in the middle of winter: Know beforehand that you are prepared and skilled enough for it, and that you have proper equipment and clothes, also for the cases when you must find shelter and dig in for the night or until the storm passes.

-Yet again-. Thick fingers.
How?
If they are American I apologize in advance.
The problem is that they do some self help book style preparations. Make a few trips and reads a few books.
Extremely rare to see these knuckleheads actually hike as part of an experienced group to learn something.
So doesnt matter how prepared they are. They have 0 experience.
We need to stop this talk about ‘preparation & knowledge’ to them.
Its giving them the impression they can do it without gaining experience first.
UPDATE: They are localised, evacuated from the mountain, and is now seen to by medical professionals. Seems it went as well as anyone can hope for.
How do you even get lost up there? I can understand getting stuck, but lost? When there’s no fog? There’s no vegetation and it’s not that far from the road to the top. And given that some of the rescuers took the lift up to the top that seems to be the area they’d been.
They should pay for the rescue operation
Problem with Gaustatoppen is the same as a lot of Norwegian mountains. They’re accessible to get to.
I’ve personally seen people take the elevator up, and try to go from the cafeteria to the peak in sneakers *on snow*. If you fall on the trail to the peak you will most likely die.
It’s an iconic mountain that most people can climb without much issues. But it’s still a big fucking mountain that don’t care about your life. Be careful.
