Austin – No. 2 Texas Men’s Tennis swept ACU, 7-0, to open the 2026 season on Saturday at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center. The teams played out both doubles and singles with the Longhorns winning all nine matches without dropping a set.

Three freshmen made their UT dual match debuts, including Abel Forger, Lucas Marionneau and Mariano Dedura-Palomero. Forger played his first-ever matches as a Longhorn after arriving this past week, while Marionneau and Dedura-Palomero came in the fall and participated in tournament play.

It was Marionneau and Dedura-Palomero who paired together in doubles and were first off the court with a 6-3 win over Merse Deli and Jorge Aza at No. 3. Texas then secured a pair of 6-4 wins, first by the duo of senior Jonah Braswell and sophomore Evan Burnett against Tomas Quesada and Dennis Dutiné at No. 2 to clinch the point, and then by Forger and senior Sebastian Gorzny versus Luis Jose Nakamine and Ethan Scribner to close out doubles.

In singles, Dedura-Palomero and Marionneau were again first off the court with Dedura-Palomero beginning his UT dual match singles career in decisive fashion with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Scribner at No. 5. A short time later, Marionneau produced an impressive score of his own with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Deli at No. 4 to provide the Longhorns a 3-0 lead.

It was Gorzny who then clinched it after also sweeping his first set, just like Dedura-Palomero and Marionneau, on the way to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Nakamine at No. 1.

With the overall match secured, Braswell, Burnett and Forger brought home the sweep, with Braswell taking a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Dutiné at No. 3, Burnett claiming a 6-1, 6-4 win against Aza, and Forger posting a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win versus Quesada.
