I would voluntary go in to the Dark ages for a while to get rid of that US cancer 🤷🏻‍♂️

The King is right here, we cannot afford to let the relations deteriorate to a point of no return, we must try to keep them alive, despite Trump’s moronic foreign policy towards Europe. We are threatened by Russia, and a collapse of transatlantic relations would put us all at a huge risk, especially if it pushes Trump closer to Russia.

  3. I know people don’t give her credit in this context but the first one to say it clearly back in 2017 was Angela Merkel.

Just after Trump became president the first time and started showing his true colours, Merkel said: we can no longer trust the United States. Europe has to find its own way.

We still have to do that.

  4. As a republican Spaniard, these days the far-right, isolationist tendencies have me agreeing with this guy way more often than I would like.

Yes and no. We have learned that America can’t be blindly trusted, so we very much should begin to claw back the independence we have outsourced to America for a good while.

It seems the King of Spain still fails to grasp what outrages Europeans most.

Neither Trump nor members of Congress have ever given a single reason why the United States repeatedly delivers — whether verbally, diplomatically, or in trade — a slap in the face to Europe.

Europe does not deserve such treatment from the United States.

Therefore, every subsequent concession Europe makes stems not from respect for a unified stance, but from coercion by force.

We do not need politicians who are merely lackeys. For that, we don’t need politicians at all.

  7. Who the fuck asked him. We should dismantle the link between the EU and the US as much as the monarchy imposed by Franco.

I mean if US wants to isolate itself than what can we do. The world is big place. You have Asia,Africa, South America and Oceania. Europe can try to improve it’s relationship with rest of world and let Uncle Sam figure out his midlife crisis.

  9. Remember which side broke it. We either accept it and move on or be subservient to a peadophile Temu dictator in America

Why are all the top comments calling for division with the US.

    That’s EXACTLY what Russia wants.

    This sub is fucked.

  11. Yeah, let’s dismantle it.
We need our independance and build equal to equal relationships. Unlike what we have now…

  12. Well it’s not really out of choice that that relationship is being severed is it? What is Europe supposed to do? Keep pretending they have a deep long-term strategic relationship with a power that’s not only adamant on undermining the EU from within but conventionally threatens its territory? There’s a lot of cognitive dissonance at work here.

I can’t remember the last time a statement from their made proper news headline.

  14. Dismantling the link isn’t something Europe is choosing though. That is been driven by MAGA.

I’d suggest assuming it’s going to be dismantled, and acting as though the US is no longer there, is in both Europe’s interest and probably in the interest of the US too.

  15. Unfortunately Uncle Sam went full retard. It was easily preventable had he not refused his vaccines…

  16. If you read the article, his speech is way less dramatic and shows common sense and decency. This was in the context of Spains diplomatic missions and modern monarchs are most useful for international trade missions etc … as people in the rest of the world still fawn over them. They are also more consistent than PMs and Presidents that come and go so quickly.

The title makes him sound clueless but the speech does not. He is mainly just being diplomatic.

I mean, it’s possible he’s concerned about who would come and save them if the Russians attacked. Cause I mean, we know Spain’s military is a joke and they don’t spend enough money on it. They are a NATO welfare case. And down vote away, but you know what I said is true.

  18. It’s not like Europe is making a choice to do so.

Honestly, the only thing we can do is stall and the rest is up to them.

But the signal has been clear, we need to fend for ourselves.

And that, Spain, means you have to do more for Ukraine

  19. @the King of Spain: be warned of keeping the link between Europe and a fascist shithole country like the USA.

  20. Spain is about the only EU country speaking out. All the others think telling Trump how good he is and showing him the increases they are paying into NATO will calm him. As stupid as the US is, Europe is once again in appeasement mode. As an America, know that he thinks the leaders are weak and they will all run to him if he says stupid stuff. Trump is still controlling the game. Not to mention inviting the far right parties to America to form closer ties. Please wake up- this is not the Biden/Bush or Obama administration

Kings don’t have an opinion in Europe.

Dunno what’s happening in the US, looks like kings are becoming a thing again there

“…indispensable framework […] that emerged from the ashes of the Second World War” and has fostered the flourishing of democracies, stability, growth, and the development of multilateralism. “

Dude.  This current regime and its supporters despise all of that.
