Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, spoke of a case of “hybrid activity” against the Republic of Cyprus in a written statement issued on Thursday evening concerning a video circulated on social media that contains allegations against President Christodoulides over illegal financing during his presidential campaign.
“Based on further investigation and evidence already gathered by the competent authority, a case of hybrid activity against the Republic of Cyprus is being examined,” Letymbiotis said, adding that the Attorney General and the Chief of Police have been informed.
Earlier, the Spokesperson had said that based on the initial assessment of the competent state agency, the video “is characterized as malicious and is a product of editing,” which “attempts to damage the image of the government and the country through false, misleading claims and arbitrary conclusions.”
On the same issue, former Energy Minister George Lakkotrypis, who appears in the video, said that he had filed a complaint with the Nicosia CID, while reactions from political parties are currently being recorded.
