When the United States swooped into Venezuela during its raid that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro, the elite Delta Force was leading the way.

And when it comes to units leading the way it doesn’t get much better than 1st Special Forces Operational — Delta, which the unit is officially known as. Newsweek called Delta Force “the army’s most elite counterterrorism and direct-action unit.”

Which is to says Delta is about as efficient and deadly as it gets.

Donald Trump and leaders in his orbit have spent the days since throwing out names of new countries that the United States could go after next — Mexico, Cuba and even Greenland, repeatedly, have been mentioned.

But one Trump-backing country music star, John Rich, had a pitch of his own on social media and it involved using Delta Force inside the United States.

“The next Delta operation should be extracting Tina Peters from her holding cell,” Rich wrote on X.

Peters is the former election clerk in Mesa County who is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence. She was convicted of facilitating a data breach into her county’s election system during the 2020 presidential election.

Trump issued a pardon for Peters on Dec. 5, but a president cannot pardon a person who was tried and convicted in a state court.

Despite that fact, Trump and his followers have continued to push for her release, and Rich has not been the first to suggest military intervention to free Peters.

And Rich’s post got plenty of support on X.

“This needs to happen,” MAGA social media influencer Gunther Eagleman replied. “I support it.”

“AGREED!” the Jerrod Sessler for Congress account replied. “Get her out of there.”

There were plenty more comments like that and you can see them all here.

Of course, there were plenty of folks who jumped in his replies to shoot down the suggestion, too.

“Conservative who believes in 50 states acting as one Nation checking in …” one person wrote. “You do that and you might as well strip away any law enforcement power states have and just go ahead and centralize government. Democrats would love that.”
