Five Starting Notes

•    This is the 65th season in which Navy and American will play at least one game against the other team  The only teams Navy has played a game against in more seasons are Army (103) and Penn (79).

•    This is the 32nd season in which they are members of the same conference.

•    Current Navy players have scored 292 points in games played against the Eagles, while the American team has tallied 104 career points in games played against the Mids. 

•    Fourteen of the last 22 games in the series have been decided by single digits.  

•    The team with fewer turnovers has posted just a 2-6 record over the last eight games of the series.

Game Information

•    The Navy men’s basketball teams heads to the northwest corner of Washington, D.C., for a Monday night game at American.

•    The CBS Sports Network will televise the 7 p.m. game and WNAV will provide radio coverage of the tilt.

A Look Back

•    A 17-0 run in the game’s opening minutes propelled Navy to a 76-50 victory over Lafayette Saturday in Alumni Hall.

•    The Mids used that 17-0 run to take a 20-2 lead eight minutes into the game.  Navy then led by as many as 19 points before going into halftime with a 39-20 lead.

•    The Mids shot 56 percent from the floor in the first half and limited the Leopards to a 23.1 percent effort. Lafayette had six made field goals and six made free throws in the first half.

•    Navy opened the second half on a 10-3 run to build a 49-23 lead less than four minutes into the frame.

•    Navy shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half and ended the game 9-21 (42.9%) from three-point range.

•    Aidan Kehoe was 10-10 from the field in scoring a career-high 23 points to go along with 11 boards.

•    Jordan Pennick was 5-8 from three-point land on his way to scoring 20 points.

American Preview

•    American has compiled an overall record of 9-8 this season and an 8-2 record in home games.

•    The Eagles have posted a 2-2 record in Patriot League games and have split their two league home games.

•    American has dropped back-to-back games at Colgate (64-62) and at home against Holy Cross (94-73).

•    The Eagles lost non-league games to, among others, Wake Forest, Rutgers, VCU and Virginia.

Series History

•    Navy holds a 55-53 advantage in the series with American, which began Feb. 18, 1931.

•    The Eagles lead the Mids, 25-18, in their home games, which includes a 20-12 lead in games played in Bender Arena.

•    The teams have been fellow members of the Patriot League since the 2001-02 season.

•    American holds a 30-20 edge in league games played between the teams, which includes a 16-9 lead in games played in Bender Arena.

•    Navy has won the last six league regular season games to be played in Washington, D.C.

•    The teams also met annually for seven years (1985-91) as members of the ECAC South Conference / Colonial Athletic Association.  

•    Navy posted an 8-7 record against American during that span, which featured an 8-6 lead in CAA regular season games and a 5-2 record in games played in D.C.

Lots of TV Time

•     Navy has been selected to appear on the CBS Sports Network a minimum of five times during the regular season.

•    The Mids will appear on the network Nov. 7 against Yale, Jan. 12 at American, Feb. 9 at Bucknell and both games against Army (Jan. 24 in Annapolis and Feb. 21 at West Point).  

•    Navy’s Feb. 28 home game against Colgate also could be chosen to be televised by the network.

•    Navy previously played five regular season games on the network during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns.  Including postseason games, the Mids were on the CBS Sports Network seven times during the 2021-22 season and five times during the 2016-17, 2018-19 and 2024-25 seasons. 

•    The Jan. 12 game at American will be Navy’s 72nd in the network since its inception as College Sports Television (CSTV) in 2004-05.

Patriot League Players of the Week 

•    Navy has received a trio of Patriot League Player-of-the-Week accolades this season.

•    Austin Benigni earned the award on Dec. 8 after he averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in Navy’s wins over Delaware State and Air Force.

•    Aidan Kehoe garnered his first career weekly award on Dec. 22 after he averaged 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds a game in wins over Coppin State and Rosemont College.

•    Benigni was tabbed for his second nod of the season and sixth of his career on Jan. 5 following a week that saw him average 25.0 points, 6.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds a game in wins over Boston and Holy Cross.

Navy Good Again on the Offensive Boards 

•    Navy has been very good over the last number of years at winning the offensive rebound margin.

•    The Mids are +1,085 in offensive rebounding margin over the last 12 seasons.

•    Navy has regularly turned those second-chance opportunities into points as the Mids are +983 points in second-chance points scored.

Three Mids With 20 Points

•    Austin Benigni (23), Jordan Pennick (23) and Aidan Kehoe (20) each scored at least 20 points in Navy’s Jan. 7 game win over Bucknell.  

•    It was the sixth time in Navy history in which three Mids scored at least 20 points in a game.

•    He then reached the 1,500-point plateau during Navy’s Dec. 19, 2025, game against Coppin State and surpassed 1,600 points Jan 10 against Lafayette.

Draper’s Steals

•    Donovan Draper spent the 2021-22 academic year as a football player at the Naval Academy Prep School.  He then was wide receiver at Navy on the 2022-23 team.

•    Draper, who was an all-county basketball player in high school, joined the Navy basketball team in the spring of 2023.

•    After going 994 days between his last high school basketball game and first as a Mid, he made an immediate impact as he ranked among the Patriot League and NCAA leaders in multiple statistical categories (steals, offensive rebounds, total rebounds).
