    Pretty sure Japan has plans to the contrary. While I’m sympathetic, Japan’s maaaaybe not the best destination for the Chinese diaspora right now.

  2. Even if there is no clear intention at present, it cannot be ruled out that, in the future, Chinese communities within Japan could be leveraged for political or diplomatic purposes. Given that the Chinese government possesses both the willingness and the capacity to do so, I think it is reasonable to remain cautious with that possibility in mind.

    If the Chinese diaspora in Japan reach 1 million that will only account for around 0.8% of Japan’s population. In contrast, that accounts for of **0.071%** China’s 1.409 billion population. Asia has some crazy demographic metrics.

    I have no idea of how Japan’s electoral district work, but 1 million, although insignificant in the grand scheme of things, can be relevant in parliamentary elections if well distributed.
