5 cans of soda from the selection on the picture for 30 kr + pant (recycling deposit). How is it confusing?

  2. 5 cans of soda for NOK 30, the other sign is misplaced as it is supposed to be 3 cans of energy drinks for NOK 50

  3. Update: both were true. 3 cans were totaling 50kr, then I scanned 2 more and the price dropped to 30. Does anyone want a free can? 😛

If its any consolation, it gets confusing for us natives as well, and I have worked at grocery stores for 5 years when I was younger.

  5. Save your money and go to Meny. Even cheaper there. 2 for 10. So you get 10 cans for 50.

  6. At least Finland got rid of that “+pant” nonsense. It must have been quite a while, but I just faintly remember when there were discounts, but the price was given without the pawn/deposit. It was confusing people so they made some regulation that forced the market to always advertise the total price with the pawn included. The price per liter is declared without it in small print.

The Coop stores have always been a place where you need to take your time to read the signs properly; otherwise, you risk getting some expensive surprises.

A few years ago, they had two packs of large white cheeses tied together and sold for a low price, which I thought was for the bunch since they were stuck together. But it turned out that the price, in large letters, was per kilo and not for both cheeses in total. But if you didn’t look closely, that information was written in small letters, so it seemed like the price was for everything. But if you’re in a hurry, you risk not seeing that line.

I argued with a couple of the staff at the store, including the manager, and told them how cynical I thought this practice was with how they formatted the posters. But none of them seemed to care much, so they must have known how misleading the poster was. So much for being a store owned by its customers.

Since then, I’ve always distrusted all the employees there and always read every sign at least twice.
