LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) – January is Cervical Health Awareness Month and the Arkansas Department of Health’s BreastCare program has coordinated with statewide providers to offer no-cost cervical and breast cancer screenings and follow-up services.

According to Monday’s news release, the state currently ranks fifth lowest for screenings that can detect cervical cancer which, if detected early, is one of the most successfully treatable cancers.

“Cancer diagnosed at late stages (III or IV) are generally associated with poor outcomes and higher treatment costs,” the ADH said. “Women diagnosed at earlier stages have a greater chance of survival.”

Women between the ages of 21 and 64 can be screened for cervical cancer through the ADH BreastCare program.
