Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has emerged as one of the five largest exporters of upholstered furniture to the European Union, with export value exceeding 100 million BAM and additional mattress exports of around €10 million, according to a recent industry report by the Milan-based Centre for Research in the Furniture Market (CSIL).
The research highlights Germany and Italy as key markets for BiH’s furniture exports, with neighbouring countries and Nordic markets also important destinations.
Experts say BiH’s favourable location, available skilled labour and currency stability tied to the euro give the sector a competitive edge in the European market.
Despite these strengths, the industry faces challenges due to the country’s small domestic market and limited presence of large manufacturers. Still, companies like “Export Siti” from Prnjavor and others with high European certification show growing capabilities and export ambition on the EU market.
