Russia has continued to pummel Ukraine with near-daily drone and missile attacks in recent months, with strikes frequently targeting energy infrastructure and contributing to power outages during the winter period.
Last week, Russia’s use of a nuclear-capable Oreshnik ballistic missile against Ukraine drew condemnation from Kiev’s allies, including the United States, which described the move as a “dangerous and inexplicable escalation” of the war.
Moscow has said the missile struck an aviation repair factory in Ukraine’s western Lviv region and claimed it was fired in response to an alleged Ukrainian attempt to target one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residences, a claim that Kiev has denied.
