A president gatekeeping oil rights on foreign land, this must be more of that small government they all talk about

He clearly didn’t listen to a word of what Exxon actually said.

It didn’t sound like Exxon wanted in anyways. Trump is trying to make it seem like them not investing in Venezuela is his choice and not that he’s actually being told no. What a child

Its a bizzare stituation where it almost looks like he ordered the strikes and kidnapping thinking that American oil companies were all salivating at the thought of getting a chance to invest again in Venezuala. Now that Exxon has bluntly told him the truth, he says that they are being too cute.

Probably the best thing Exxon could’ve hoped for.

A bit of context, the CEO of Exxon called Venezuela “uninvestable” and pointed out that previous attempts to do business there ended up with their assets being seized by the state.
*”We have had our assets seized there twice and so you can imagine to re-enter a third time would require some pretty significant changes from what we’ve historically seen and what is currently the state.”*
Then there was the time that Rex Tillerson, a previous Exxon CEO called Trump a “fucking moron” after serving as his energy minister in his first term.
Banning Exxon from involvement in Venezuela is like someone sacking you after you’ve already resigned and left the building.
I doubt that Trump will get many takers either, especially as the US government issued advice at the weekend to any US citizens in Venezuela to leave the country:
It’s giving you can’t quit you’re fired vibes. This president is pathetic

I’m going to wager a guess it’s because Trump mega-donor [Paul Singer](https://fortune.com/2026/01/09/paul-singer-elliott-management-venezuela-citgo-maduro/) wants fewer competitors. In an *amazing coincidence*, he purchased Citgo, which was formerly the American face of the Venezuelan state-run oil company PDVSA just a month before Maduro’s capture. The depth of their grift is a black hole.

Being kept out is probably the best possible outcome in a business sense, it is going to be a lose-lose situation in Venezuela. Realistically, ExxonMobil is dodging a missile.

Him having a tantrum after they said it’s uninvestable and banning them is so fucking childish and stupid. He thinks he’s teaching them a lesson but they don’t care.
It’s like if I asked Sydney Sweeney out and she said she wanted nothing to do with me so I then told her she’s banned from dating me and I walk away from that thinking that will show her!

“The White House is framing the effort to “run” Venezuela in economic terms, and Trump has seized tankers carrying Venezuelan oil, has said the U.S. is taking over the sales of 30 million to 50 million barrels of previously sanctioned Venezuelan crude, and plans to control sales worldwide indefinitely.”
That certainly sounds like a law enforcement action. No contradiction there at all.
Guess what, nobody will invest in Venezuela because Donald Trump’s assurances are worth nothing. The oil industry has benefited handsomely from Trump’s corruption, they know better than anybody that he has never kept his end of a deal and he has betrayed everyone who ever trusted him.
